The Greatest Challenge in Communications

Motivational Power Quote

The Greatest Challenge in Communications
The problem with communication is the illusion that
it has occurred.”
George Bernard Shaw 1856 - 1950, Irish Playwright

As I see it. . . . . . . .

The greatest challenge in communications . . . .

Are you communicating . . . . or talking?

Are you talking . . . . and not listening?

Good communication is an interactive skill where information is exchanged between the parties to create a mutual understanding among the parties.

The best communicators  . . . . are the best listener because they are listening to understand and they focus on the other person and what they are saying and their needs. An effective listener will listen 80% of the time and speak with a purpose to gather information 20% of the time.

A good listener creates rapport and will build a strong bond in their business relationships.

It’s important to understand the other person, and their expectations are in the communications. Your role is to meet or to exceed their expectations and to communicate at a level they can understand and accept.

The greatest challenge in communication . . . . is to be a great listener.

Speaking With a Purpose

Motivational Power Quote

Speaking With a Purpose
“The wise speak only
of what the know.”
Gandalf, Lord of the Rings

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Speaking with a purpose

Speak when there is something constructive to say, if it’s not constructive remain silent, listen and.

Practice active listening to better understand the person that you’re speaking with to become more effective communicator.

In effective communications we should know the subject that we are speaking about and speak with a purpose. Speaking without knowledge of the subject is a pathway to a disaster and will make the person look unprofessional.

A wise person will not speak about a subject without the knowledge of the topic. Where they lack information on the topic they will do the research of the subject to gain the knowledge before they speak.

A wise person will speak with purpose on what they know, and to be seen as an expert on the topic.

Speaking with a purpose is speaking from your strengths.

The Golden Rule of Friendship

Motivational Power Quote

The Golden Rule of Friendship

“The golden rule of friendship
is to listen to others
as you would have
them listen to you.”
David Augsburger

As I see it. . . . . . . .
The golden rule of friendship applies to every aspect of our life.

When you meet someone give them your undivided attention for the first thirty seconds. During your conversation listen to them, give them your full attention, acknowledge what they’re saying and show genuine interest in them.

When you’re listening, make them feel that they are the most important person in the world.

The person that’s a proactive listener earns the reputation of being a brilliant conversationalist who others will seek out for advice and counsel.

Listen to others as we would like them to listen to us.

Actively listening to others is a sign of respect. As we listen to others we build rapport and that rapport builds trust and confidence.

As we listen to others, others will listen to us.
