Effective Negotiations Involves Compromise

Motivational Power Quote

Effective Negotiations Involves Compromise
“If you can’t go around it, over it,
or through it you had better negotiate it.”
Ashleigh Brilliant, Author and Syndicated cartoonist

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Effective negotiations involves  compromise

It becomes human nature for a person to want their way in many of the aspects in their life. So when you have two people in the same situation both wanting their own way it becomes an interesting situation.

It can be as simple of where to go to dinner, what TV show to watch, or where to go on vacation. Wanting your own way can be found in many aspects of your personal life and in your career.

A person can try to push their way through a situation to get their own way leaving everything in their wake in rubble. They look at what they want as an entitlement and care very little about the other person, their position or their needs.

Another person wants what they want . . . . and will try to convince the other person why they should have it.

But there will be times that your not able to convince the other person to give you what you want and you are now at an impasse.

A key to effective negotiations is to know when to stop pushing for your way. You have to know when to begin the negotiating process . . . . and when compromise is in order to achieve a successful conclusion.

To know when to negotiate is the art of knowing when to stop a stalemate. The negotiation starts the process of cooperation to find an acceptable compromise to where all the parties feel that there needs have been met.

The most effective negotiations involve compromise . . . . and keeping the negotiation focused on the positions of the parties and not on the person. When you know when to negotiate you become a master negotiator.

Negotiations Are About Creating Successful Results

Motivational Power Quote

Negotiations Are About Creating Successful Results
“If you just set out to be liked, you would be prepared
to compromise in anything at anytime and you
would achieve nothing.”
Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Negotiations are about creating successful results

We do not negotiate to liked . . . . we negotiate to arrive at the desired outcome.

A successful negotiator is prepared for the negotiations . . . . and can argue both positions in the negotiations  effectively.   They also will be able to separate the issues from the people . . . . and negotiate the issues to a successful conclusion.

Negotiations are not about winning every point in the negotiations it’s about understanding how to successfully compromise . . . . and remain focused the on end results of the negotiations. Professional negotiations also is about letting the other person win  small compromises in order to keep the negotiation on track to create a win-win negotiations and successful negotiating results.

Negotiations are about creating successful results . . . . and the professional negotiator is prepared to negotiate to achieve successful results.

Do What’s Right When No One Is Watching

Motivational Power Quote

Do What’s Right When No One Is Watching
“Real Integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that
nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.”
Oprah Winfrey, talk show host

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Do what’s right when no one is watching

There will be times that you can make a choice to do the right thing or to compromise your position. The decision should always be the same no matter if the world is watching you or you’re in a position where no one will know what you’re done.

What is being tested in that moment in time is your integrity . . . .

You can make the choice to the right thing and maintain your integrity. Or you can choose to compromise and take the course of least resistant’s and think that not one will know what you did.

Someone always knows what you have done and that person is you. When you have compromised your integrity you’re not be honest with yourselves.

It’s important to retain your integrity for the world to see, but it becomes critical to set the standard of personal integrity for you to follow.

Do what’s right when no one is watching is being honest with yourself, and in the time the people that count most in your life will see you as a person of integrity.

Doing What’s Right When no One is Around

Motivational Power Quote

Doing What’s Right When no One is Around

“Integrity is doing the right thing,
ever if there is no chance
you would be caught doing
the wrong thing.”
David Cottrell, author, speaker

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Doing what’s right when no one is around.

Doing the right thing is a choice, a choice about one’s integrity when there’s no one around watching what you’re doing.

One’s integrity should be non-negotiable. Integrity is part of our core values and who we are as a person.

There will be times that that we reach a crossroad were we can choose to compromise our integrity because no one will ever find out what we did. At that moment we are testing our integrity. A small compromise with our integrity changes our values and tarnishes our truthfulness with others and ourselves.

Maintaining your integrity and doing the right thing when no one is around, creates your reputation and is a foundation for continued success.

There will always be one person there no matter what you’re doing, and that person is you.

Be honesty with yourself in your thinking and do the right thing.
